Aluminum Gang Forms offer major advances and complete adaptability, high
strength-to-weight ratio, all at cost effective prices.
The SCI
Aluminum Gang Form System works very much like the widely used all wood system, as far as
general make-up. 3/4" (19 mm) thick plywood is the form face material. Our
lightweight extruded aluminum joists replace heavy timber joist; and rugged lightweight
Aluminum Strongbacks replace heavy timber walers.
 Unlike wood, which
is very inconsistent in quality and strength, our strong aluminum elements are always of
high quality and will produce unequaled superior results.
Assembly is quick and easy. The SCI Aluminum Strongbacks are delivered to
the jobsite fully assembled (except when exported). The Aluminum Joists are secured to the
Strongbacks by means of an Aluminum Clip Assembly, which includes a 1/2" (12.7 mm) x
1-1/2" (38 mm) long T-head bolt and hex nut. The "T" feature enables the
head of the bolt to be inserted into the bolt slot of the Aluminum Joist at any location
along its length. The Aluminum Clip fits snugly around the special extruded shape of the
Aluminum Strongback's flange, providing a secure positive connection. All accessory items
such as Walkway Brackets, Lifting Brackets, Tie Plates, etc. are positioned and attached
in minutes. Now turn the framework over with a small crane and apply the plywood face with
the threaded nails or drywall screws of your choice.
Common manual or power driven socket wrenches is all that is needed for
the hex nut of the 1/2" (12.7 mm) T-head bolts and the heads and hex nuts of the
3/4" (19 mm) A-325 accessory bolts.
The SCI Aluminum Gang Form is crane handled but not crane assembled. Every
component....even the longest Aluminum Joist and Aluminum Strongbacks do not require crane
handling during assembly.
Now assembled, you have a strong 1500 PSF (7,323.5 Kg/sq. m) gang forming
system that weighs only 8-1/2 lbs/SF (41.5kg/sq. m). It provides an extremely flexible tie
spacing - up to 6' x 8' (1.83m x 2.44m) and produces high quality concrete surfaces while
providing excellent versatility to adapt to practically any type of wall forming
condition, including most custom applications.
During form use, maintenance is minimal. Normal plywood treatment and
application of your form release agent just about does it. We recommend, as a safety
precaution, occasional inspection for bolts and nuts that may have loosened from handling.

These massive
turbine pedestal columns were formed using SCI Aluminum Joists, Strongbacks, and Outside
Corner Brackets. Gang forms were then dismantled and the Aluminum Joists and Strongbacks
were re-used to form the heavy concrete beams and slabs of the upper platform of the
turbine pedestal.

SERVICE
 The formwork
drawings that SCI furnishes to the contractor eliminates all guesswork. We specify the
order of assembly and erection including the location of the Aluminum Strongbacks and
Aluminum Joists, the location and actual loading of the form ties, location of all
accessories and advise you of the maximum allowable rate of concrete placement.
We include
full information on re-use cycles, form tie and hardware selection, designing of
bulkheads, etc. The formwork package is fully engineered right down to the SCI Shear Wall
Brackets and Landing Brackets...so as to provide workmen with the security and safety that
is an integral part of SCI's Aluminum Gang form system.
FULL LINE OF SCI
ACCESSORIES
 SCI Walkway Bracket, a
custom design, accommodates three standard 2" x 10" (51mm x 254mm) scaffold
planks or, preferably, two SCI Aluminum Joists secured by SCI Aluminum Clips. Walkway
Brackets require two 3/4" (19mm) x 3-1/2" (89mm) A-325 bolts. The brackets may
be located anywhere along the length of the Aluminum Strongbacks.
 SCI Lifting
Bracket , complete with 9,500 lbs (4,309 kg) safe working load shackle, ensures a
plumb form while lifting and re-setting the gang forms. It is usually mounted within the
web and flanges of the assembly Aluminum Strongbacks so that the Walkway Bracket may be
set at the top, if desired. Each Lifting Bracket requires two 3/4" (19mm) x
4-1/2" (108 mm) A-325 bolts. It should be noted that if the Walkway Bracket is not
used at the location of the Lifting Bracket, two 2" long (50.80mm) spacer sleeves
should be utilized between the Strongback channel members.
SCI
Shear Wall Bracket and Landing Bracket, provide maximum security for workmen
engaged on the formwork in a multi-lift operation. The Shear Wall Bracket is anchored to a
tie set in the pour below. The Landing Bracket is mounted within the Strongback channels
and can be located anywhere throughout the length of the Strongbacks. It requires three
3/4" (19mm) x 3-1/2" (89mm) A-325 bolts. These two accessories greatly help to
reduce crane time while forms are being cycled. It should be noted that a Walkway Bracket
cannot be positioned on the Aluminum Strongback at the same location as the Landing
Bracket.
SCI Tie
Plates, are designed to accept virtually any type of form tie...she-bolts, taper
ties, coil ties, etc. They are fastened securely to the Aluminum Strongbacks with two
1/2" (13 mm) J-bolts and hex nuts.
SCI
Plumbing Jack, is used to plumb and align gang
forms on multi-lift operations. It is mounted on the trailing end of the Aluminum
Strongback. This heavy duty Plumbing Jack has plastic capped swivel type plate head to
protect the concrete surface and will easily align even the largest gang form. It requires
two 3/4" (19mm) x 3-1/2" (89mm) A-325 bolts.
